Patriots Rookie Quintayvious Hutchins Charged in Dorm Assault Case

Court records, campus police reports, and a key witness statement paint a complicated picture of the alleged domestic assault case.

The New England Patriots are facing yet another off-field issue, this time involving rookie linebacker Quintayvious Hutchins, who was charged this week in connection with an alleged assault at a dorm on the Boston College campus.

According to court records and a police report obtained by CBS Boston, the 23-year-old seventh-round draft pick was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery on a family or household member following an incident on Tuesday night, May 11, inside Voute Hall in Chestnut Hill.

Campus police reportedly responded to the dorm shortly before 8 p.m. after receiving calls about “a male and female fighting in the hallway.” A resident advisor told officers the pair had been “pushing each other” before Hutchins allegedly grabbed the woman by the neck during the argument.

In a witness statement included in the report, the resident advisor clarified that the alleged “choke” was described as “a firm grab to the neck, not strangulation.”

According to police documents, Hutchins told officers the confrontation started earlier in the evening over food before he temporarily left the building. He allegedly returned about 45 minutes later to retrieve his belongings, claiming that the woman had thrown his items into the hallway as the argument escalated.

Police also noted that a ceiling tile fell during the dispute. The woman involved reportedly declined to have photographs taken of her neck and later told officers, “I’m ok, nothing happened,” according to the report.

Hutchins was arrested at the scene and later arraigned on Wednesday morning, May 12, in Newton District Court, where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. He was released on personal recognizance and is expected to return to court for a future hearing.

The Patriots addressed the matter in a brief statement, saying: “We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins. We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will not have further comment at this time.”

The case arrived less than three weeks after Hutchins was selected by New England with the 247th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The Alabama native spent five seasons at Boston College and emerged as one of the defense’s leaders during the 2025 season after the departure of standout edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku.

He also participated in the Senior Bowl, NFL Combine, and Boston College’s pro day ahead of the draft process. During rookie camp earlier this month, Hutchins was already taking reps with New England’s special teams unit.

Before draft night, Hutchins spoke emotionally about finally getting his NFL opportunity after uncertainty surrounding his draft status. “Getting that call from the Patriots was like a dream come true,” he told reporters after being selected in April.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who recently found himself involved in a photo scandal with disgraced journalist Dianna Russini, had also personally worked with Hutchins during Boston College’s pro day ahead of the draft.
