Seattle Storm guard Lexie Brown is pushing back against a wave of online harassment after false rumors linked her to Klay Thompson’s split from Megan Thee Stallion. The WNBA star’s inner circle publicly defended her as she continued to deny any involvement in the situation that sparked widespread speculation across social media.
The controversy began after Megan Thee Stallion announced on April 25 that her relationship with Thompson had ended due to alleged cheating. Within hours, online users incorrectly identified Brown as the supposed third party. Brown addressed the claims the following day, stating plainly on Instagram that “none of it is true,” while attempting to keep her focus on the upcoming WNBA season.
As the narrative spread, the impact quickly escalated beyond speculation. Brown revealed she received threats against her life and health, with some messages extending to her family. The situation became serious enough that she hired security and stepped away from social media entirely.
Those closest to Brown have since stepped in to shut down the misinformation. CBS Sports reporter Ashley Nicole Moss, a longtime friend, criticized the speed at which the rumor gained traction online.
“Taking a rumor and running with it to the point where my friend is receiving death threats for something she had ZERO involvement with… is insane,” Moss wrote, adding that claims about alleged “close friends” posts fueling the story were “blatant lies.”
Brown has also expressed frustration with the silence from those directly involved. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, she said she expected either Thompson or Megan Thee Stallion to publicly correct the narrative.
“They’re the ones in the relationship… so one of them, if not both of them, know that it was not me,” she said, noting she remains the only person to have directly denied the claims.
Brown clarified she only knows Thompson through professional basketball circles and has no relationship with Megan Thee Stallion.
The situation has added another layer of stress for Brown, who has spent the past three years managing Crohn’s disease. After multiple surgeries and a difficult recovery period earlier in her career, she said the anxiety tied to the rumors posed a real risk to her health, even as she has recently reached a stable place physically and mentally with the Storm organization.
