Former NBA champion Iman Shumpert has shared the heartbreaking news of his father’s passing.
In an Instagram post published over the weekend, Shumpert announced that Odis Wayne Shumpert II died on October 27, remembering him as “the greatest man I’ll ever know.”
The post included several photos of Odis alongside an emotional caption:
“Down goes the King…a sweet goodbye to the greatest man I’ll ever know. You can take your rest pop, u did ur s**t I promise. I don’t know if I’ll ever fit ur shoes, but ima have em on everyday anyway. I love you man. Rest In Paradise Odis Wayne Shumpert II.”
Odis was a longtime insurance broker, a devoted husband to L’Tanya Shumpert (née Moseley) for 44 years, and the proud father of four sons—Otis III, Ahrii, Iman, and Kasani. According to the official obituary, he was also a grandfather to Micah, Junie, Pia, and Ruerose, and a beloved brother, uncle, and great-uncle within the family’s tight-knit circle.
Visitation services for Odis took place on Sunday, November 2, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Russo’s Hillside Chapels in Hillside, Illinois. Interment will be private, as noted in the family’s announcement.
Shortly before his father’s passing, Iman had shared a clip from a podcast episode featuring Odis and his brother, Ahrii, offering fans a glimpse into the family’s chemistry.
In the clip, Odis laughs about avoiding a one-on-one basketball matchup against his sons, joking, “Odis Shumpert wasn’t risking the 1v1 matchup with Iman and Ahrii.”
Iman, who has long credited his parents for his discipline and creativity, often described his father as a grounding force in the family — the kind of presence that quietly led by example.
Odis is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. He was 74.
