Rising boxer Isis Sio is in a medically induced coma after suffering serious injuries during a first-round knockout loss on Saturday, March 21. The 19-year-old junior flyweight was competing on a ProBoxTV card in San Bernardino, California, when the bout was abruptly stopped following a series of head shots.
According to ESPN, Sio faced undefeated fighter Jocelyn Camarillo in the opening fight at the National Orange Show Event Center, which was put on by Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions. Just 78 seconds into the match, Sio went down after absorbing multiple punches and did not regain consciousness.
Medical personnel rushed into the ring, where she was treated before being stretchered out of the arena.
Witnesses reported that she appeared to be convulsing as she was transported to Loma Linda University Health Medical Center for further care.
The young fighter, who turned professional in September 2025, represents a new generation of athletes entering the sport at a rapid pace. Originally from North Dakota, Sio had compiled a 1-3 record early in her career, competing in the light flyweight division.
Saturday’s bout marked her second consecutive knockout loss, following a stoppage earlier this year.
ProBoxTV confirmed her condition in a statement released on Sunday, March 22, noting the severity of the situation. “Ms. Sio is currently in a medically induced coma,” the organization shared. “Our thoughts are with her and her family at this very difficult time.”
CEO Garry Jonas and the promotion also expressed hopes for her recovery. Camarillo echoed that sentiment publicly, writing, “grateful for the moment but my heart is with isis and keeping her in my prayers and wishing her a full recovery 🙏🏽”
Camarillo, who entered the fight with a 6-0 record and no prior knockouts, secured the first stoppage victory of her career in the bout.
