The Chicago Bulls waived guard Jaden Ivey on Monday, March 30, citing “conduct detrimental to the team,” according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The decision came just hours after Ivey posted a nearly hour-long Instagram Live video that included anti-LGBTQ remarks, controversial statements about abortion, and criticism of various topics, including rapper 50 Cent.
During the livestream, Ivey specifically targeted the NBA’s Pride Month initiatives. “The world proclaims LGBTQ, right? They proclaim Pride Month and the NBA does too,” he said, per Yahoo Sports. “They say, ‘Come join us for Pride Month to celebrate unrighteousness.’” Earlier in the day, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that the Bulls were already considering ways to move on from Ivey before the waiver became official.
Ivey, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, was acquired by Chicago in a three-team trade last month. The deal also brought Mike Conley to the Bulls, while Kevin Huerter, Dario Šarić, and a future first-round pick swap were sent to the Detroit Pistons, and the Minnesota Timberwolves received salary-cap relief.
He appeared in just four games for Chicago before being shut down on March 26 as he continued to rehab a left knee injury.
Ivey’s recent struggles follow an injury-shortened stint in Detroit, where a broken left fibula in January 2025 limited him to 30 games last season. After joining the Bulls in February, he told reporters that the “old Jaden Ivey” was gone, citing a renewed focus on his faith.
Following the news, Ivey took to social media, saying the team waived him for “conduct detrimental to the team.”
“They said your conduct has been detrimental to the team… I haven’t even been with the team because I’ve been rehabbing,” he said.
Elsewhere online, the former Bulls player was told by a flight attendant to “wrap it up” and end his Instagram Live due to possible interference before takeoff.
