Lil Yachty is firing back at critics upset over his WWE appearance.
On Friday (April 3), the Grammy-nominee assisted Trick Williams to attack Sami Zayn on Friday’s WWE SmackDown. However, Yachty’s participation didn’t go without some backlash from wrestling fans.
The following day, Yachty caught wind of a “revised” WrestleMania poster featuring celebrities who were recently involved in WWE including Jelly Roll, Pat McAfee, IShowSpeed, Tom Brady, and Yachty himself all gambling.
“i understand yall upset but don’t try and step on my fucking moment, i’m at the tv screen every monday and friday religiously. i’ve been to more ple’s than most. i probably know more history than most of yall,” Yachty wrote to his X account. “who’s to say i don’t deserve to be apart of something i love so dearly?”
Yachty’s tweet inspired a number of responses from supportive fans and critics alike.
“As a hardcore fan, i find your inclusion and Speed’s inclusion great. you’re both committed to the personas on screen and look like you’re having fun with the people you work with,” wrote one fan. “i think it’s the equivalent of you grinding, headlining Coachella solo, but when arriving they tell you that you’re including John Cena in a 1/3 of the performance somehow. No knock to John Cena, we love him but wtf is he doing for all that time in a Lil Yachty concert.”
“The problem is not with you it’s with Pat and tko,” wrote another fan. “They completely botched a dream match since Cody came back into wwe it’s not needed. Celebrities have always been apart of mania people know that, it’s the fact that Pat being the voice is a slap in the face to Randy and Cody.”
Other commenters weren’t as kind, such as a user who wrote, “You see ‘don’t try and step on MY moment’ is our problem with all of this. this shouldn’t be your moment no matter how big of a fan you think you are, you are there to be used as an attraction and potential ticket mover nothing else. we don’t care about your ‘story’!!”
Another added, “‘I've been to more PLE's than most’ is a really poor argument here because of course you have, it's almost like you have more money than most.”
