Basketball isn’t the same without Chris Bosh, and considering that he has badly wanted to be back on the court for a long time, it’s heartbreaking to see him forced to watch from the sidelines. But is his passion for returning wavering?

Bosh recently spoke at the CES gadget show in Las Vegas, and his commentary on his current life—as he remains medically barred from participating because of persistent blood-clot issues—was a bit morose.

“For me, I kind of just follow my passions and follow what I love to do and use my free time to kind of answer those questions and go through my bad moods and maybe a little light case of depression,” Bosh said Thursday, according to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press. “Really, to search for what I’m looking for. And I’ve come to some interesting conclusions. It’s all about following my heart and what made me happy.”

The question, of course: is it still basketball that makes him happy? And if so, will doctors ever clear him to return?

Bosh did not answer those questions, instead keeping things vague.

“I’m still learning more about myself and my situation, and really off the court how to function there because I’m kind of getting the taste of retirement now,” Bosh said. “Just trying to navigate those waters because it gets a little complicated sometimes… Hoping one day that the stars align and I figure some things out and things kind of just go my way and I’ll be able to do what I want to do. I don’t know what that is yet.”

Bosh, an 11-time All-Star and two-time NBA champ with “The Heatles,” has been riddled with blood-clot issues since Feb. 2015. In September, Pat Riley said Chris Bosh’s time with the Heat was over.
