Nike is planning to release a new iteration of the Kobe 5 this summer to coincide with the brand’s annual NYvsNY high school basketball tournament in New York City.
The upcoming “NYvsNY” Kobe 5 Protro was first spotted on New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson’s feet during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals on May 19, when he led his squad to an incredible comeback win over the Cleveland Cavaliers after trailing by 22 points with under 8 minutes to go.
This “NYvsNY” Kobe 5 dons a bold color scheme reminiscent of the Big Apple, including a teal-based hue that’s likely a nod to the Statue of Liberty. There are also orange and blue splatter graphics on the eyelets, the heel, and outsole, which represent New York basketball.
As of now, concrete release details for the “NYvsNY” Kobe 5 Protro have not yet been announced by Nike. Check back soon for official updates.
