American Horror Story co-creator Ryan Murphy revealed that the series' eighth season will take its characters to the "near-distant future."
"It's a projection," explained Murphy during a Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.
But fans may have to wait a bit longer until the horror anthology comes back since Murphy is taking his time in developing the upcoming season. "I’m not going to shoot anything until it’s written, and it’s perfectly cast, and I get great number twos in terms of showrunners and directors," said Murphy.
It doesn't help that Murphy has a busy schedule ahead of him as well. In addition to AHS, Murphy is producing at least six other projects including Feud's second season, an unnamed Monica Lewinsky project and Pose, a musical drama set in '80s New York.
The super producer is also gearing up to premiere American Crime Story: Versace, later this month. The series will explore the assassination of the famed designer Gianni Versace.
While Murphy is excited to present Versace, the opposite is true for the forthcoming iteration of the series, American Crime Story: Katrina. "I still had a passion for the story, but it wasn’t the right story," he said. "I do think there’s such a need and expectation to be constantly feeding the machine." Murphy also added that "Spike Lee did it better" referring to Lee's 2006 documentary on the tragic Hurricane Katrina, When The Levees Broke.
American Crime Story: Versace is set to premiere on Jan. 17.
