After almost three years, Starfield is finally coming to the PlayStation 5.

Game developer Bethesda announced the release date for the game, which was previously an Xbox exclusive, as Apr. 7. Instead of its original $69.99 price point, it’ll be available for $49.99, which will also be the same for all systems.

Along with the new release date, Bethesda announced a new paid story DLC for the game called Terran Amada, which will feature a brand new questline, characters, locations, enemies, and rewards. It’ll be available for $10 (if you don’t own the Premium Edition of Starfield) and comes out on the same day as Starfield’s PS5 release.

That’s not all, folks. There are a bunch of new updates coming to the game after years of suggestions and complaints from players. This group of changes is called Free Lanes, and its included the long-awaited update to spaceflight that’ll make traveling between planets in the same star system seamless.

Along with the upgraded spaceflight, there’ll be new encounters, characters of interest, dungeons to explore, and a resource named X-Tech for players to use to upgrade weapons and their ships.

If that doesn’t sound like enough, there’s even more to experience. There’s a new Moon Jumper land vehicle, a Milliewhale pet, a new crew member for your ship, and a change to New Game+ rules that allows you to bring a limited number of items over to your next playthrough.

Speaking to IGN about the port to PS5, Bethesda’s studio head, Todd Howard, explained why the game came to Sony’s flagship system after being an Xbox exclusive for nearly three years. “We've always wanted to do it,” he said. I would say that we have a great relationship with PlayStation. We've been there for a long time with our games. So, I think with this one, we knew it would be a matter of time.”

Starfield came out on Sept. 6, 2023. Originally delayed several times before release, it received mixed reviews after coming out, but ended up becoming the 11th best-selling video game in the United States that year.
