Gamers Think the $700 PS5 Pro Price Is Too Expensive

The console's reveal was immediately followed with anger from its supporters.

The PlayStation 5 Pro has been officially announced and people everywhere aren’t exactly excited about the price tag.

Sony revealed the update to its latest flagship console today during an event called the “PS5 Technical Presentation.” The system looks…very similar to the PS5 that’s already out. But underneath the hood, the PS5 Pro has a much larger GPU, improved ray tracing, and something called “Playstation Spectral Super Resolution” that means custom hardware for machine learning.

Now, for the downside. If you like physical games, you’ll be upset to hear that the PS5 Pro doesn’t have a launch drive — but you can buy one separately upon launch when it drops on Nov. 7. If you want a vertical stand for your system, you’ll have to get it separately too.

Now, Pro versions of consoles are expected to be slightly more expensive. $100. $150 even. At launch, the PS4 Pro was $100 more than the regular PS4. But when Sony revealed that the PS5 will cost $700 (USD), the internet lost its marbles. That’s nearly double what the original PS5 cost.

Everyone, everywhere, seems to agree that Sony’s new device is extremely overpriced — especially since none of the new features are things you really have to have to fundamentally change your gaming experience. Here are some of the wildest reactions on social media so far.
