Crunchyroll has crowned the final season of My Hero Academia Anime of the Year at its 2026 Anime Awards.
Held at Tokyo's Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa on Saturday (May 23), the 2026 Crunchyroll Anime Awards featured The Weeknd presenting the award for the long-running anime that wrapped its final season in December (not counting the special epilogue episode that premiered earlier this month).
My Hero Academia’s final season beat out Dan Da Dan’s second season, Gachiakuta, Takopi’s Original Sin, The Apothecary Diaries' second season, and The Summer Hikaru Died to win Anime of the Year.
My Hero Academia led all titles with three total wins on the night.
The Weeknd joined a presenter lineup that included Winston Duke, RZA, Young Miko, Rashmika Mandanna, BamBam, Ten, and Ethan Bortnick. Sony Group Corporation President Hiroki Totoki also addressed the crowd, saying, "Anime has brought so many people together…and will continue to do so."
Hosts Jon Kabira and Sally Amaki presented the Global Impact Award for the late Tatsuya Nagamine, a director whose credits spanned Dragon Ball Super, HeartCatch PreCure!, and One Piece.
Going into the night, Dan Da Dan’s Season 2 led all nominees with 17 nominations, while The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 followed with 13. Takopi's Original Sin and The Summer Hikaru Died each earned seven nominations.
The ceremony opened with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performing a medley drawn from Anime of the Year winners across the past decade, which built to Dean Fujioka singing "History Maker," the opening theme from Yuri on Ice (2017).
Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi then delivered a 30th anniversary tribute to Neon Genesis Evangelion, performing its iconic theme "A Cruel Angel's Thesis."
Other big winners for the night included Lazarus, which took home Best Original Anime, One Piece for Best Continuing Series, and Gachiakuta won Best New Series.
