Chris Evans’ reaction to Ryan Reynolds’ recent Instagram shoutout to him for appearing in Deadpool & Wolverine might bring a tear to your eye.
In response to the post from Reynolds thanking him for his cameo appearance as the Human Torch (a role he originally played in Fantastic Four in 2005 and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2007), Evans showered Reynolds in the best praise imaginable.
“There may be an ocean of Chrises, but only one Ryan Reynolds,” he wrote in the post’s comments. “And he gives the BEST gifts. This one is gonna be tough to beat.”
The post that Evans responded to from Reynolds was a carousel of Evans’ appearances through the movie. In the caption of the post, Reynolds penned a lengthy message to his costar, thanking him for turning up the heat in his movie.
“Chris is one of those movie stars who’s actually better than you hope he is,” wrote Reynolds. “And people hold him to a crazy high standard. He’s just the absolute best.”
He went on, explaining how hard it was to say goodbye to Evans’ portrayal of the character.
“Part of the movie’s theme is saying goodbye… And one of the gifts of working on the film is that we got to say goodbye on different terms,” he penned. “Seeing Johnny Storm (if only for a short while) was like seeing someone you miss come back from the dead in a dream. Way too brief and too lovely to be real.”
The success of Deadpool & Wolverine undoubtedly has Reynolds happy. It’s already become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time and has become a hit with comic book fans because it gives them glimpses of some of Marvel’s most iconic mutants throughout the film’s runtime.
One of those mutants is Gambit, who’s played by Channing Tatum. Similar to Evans, Reynolds previously showered Tatum in praise for his portrayal of the character on Instagram.
"Gambit is a guy Chan was born to play," wrote Reynolds. "His story is similar to my road on Deadpool — in that Chan spent a decade trying to put the most comic-accurate version of Gambit on the big screen."
Reynolds continued on, basically giving Tatum a glowing recommendation to get his own Gambit movie.
"Remy LeBeau is grafted to his soul and needs to come out and deal," the actor wrote. "Some characters can only exist with a one-in-a-billion pairing, and this is it. Gambit found his author in Chan."
