Deadpool & Wolverine has quickly become a major box office hit.

Variety reports that the Marvel film has amassed $205 million during its opening weekend, making it the eight-best debut of all time. The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-starring film has eclipsed other MCU offerings, like 2018’s Black Panther ($202 million), and is just behind 2012’s The Avengers ($207 million).

Deadpool & Wolverine has also been a smashing success at the global box office, bringing in $233.3 million for a total of $438 million. That’s a decent haul, considering the film cost Disney around $200 million to produce and about $100 million to promote.

The latest Deadpool installation has also been the most successful, with the series’ first film, 2016’s Deadpool earning $132 million during its first weekend, and the sequel, 2018’s Deadpool 2 garnering $125 million. Deadpool & Wolverine has hit several accolades since opening: the movie now has the largest R-rated debut weekend ever, it's one of nine films that made over $200 million during an opening weekend, it's the sixth-highest-grossing film this year, and it's Marvel’s first film franchise to make over $30 billion worldwide.

Marvel needed Deadpool & Wolverine to do well, particularly because some of its other recent offerings—Eternals, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and The Marvels—fell flat. Disney has since decided to scale back, with Deadpool & Wolverine the MCU’s only offering this year.
