A newly surfaced video of the mass shooting in Bondi Beach, Australia, shows a bystander disarming a gunman as absolute chaos unfolds around them.
In the short video, a gunman can be seen with his weapon aiming at someone out of view when the bystander calmly walks up and wrestles the weapon from his hands. Afterward, the bystander points the weapon back at the gunman, who appears stunned and casually walks away.
According to CNN, the man who tackled the gunman underwent surgery after being wounded in the attack. The man’s cousin informed 7News that he was “OK.”
“He’s a hero, 100%, he’s a hero,” the man's cousin said. “He has two shots, one in his arm here, and one in his hand.”
The shooting happened at the Chanukah by the Sea 2025 event and lasted for more than 10 minutes, leaving at least 11 victims dead and 29 others wounded.
One of the suspects has been identified as Naveed Akram, according to Australian publications.
Officers on the scene of the shooting reportedly secured and removed explosive devices that were discovered in a nearby vehicle.
Hundreds of people in the Jewish community gathered to celebrate the first day of Hanukkah at Australia's Bondi Beach when the attack began, which has been called an act of terrorism.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the attack in a statement as “an act of evil, antisemitism, terrorism that has struck the heart of our nation” and said that “an attack on Jewish Australians is an attack on every Australian.”
