Marty Mauser himself was on hand for the underground table tennis showdown.

For the latest chapter in what has to be the most compelling Oscar campaign in recent memory, Timothée Chalamet, star of Marty Supreme and recent White Boy of the Year honoree, hit New York to host an underground table tennis showdown put together by the folks at Airbnb.

Complex was on hand for the event, which was held at a secret location in New York on Wednesday (Dec. 17) and saw a select group of lucky contenders vying for their own shot at potential Marty Mauser-esque glory. Furthering the meta-ness of it all, the original Airbnb page for the event, seen here, listed Mauser himself (Chalamet’s character in the Josh Safdie-directed film) as the host.

“Let’s get really serious in here real quick. … What I wanna do is come downstairs. I wanna see this up close and personal,” Chalamet, flanked by fellow Marty Supreme star Odessa A'zion and some familiar ping-pong figures, told the crowd ahead of the final matches of the invitational.

The two-time (soon-to-be three-time?) Oscar nominee was decked out in a vintage Salomon ski jacket, a Chrome Hearts belt, and Margiela Futures for the occasion. Safdie, at one point rocking the coveted Marty Supreme jacket from NAHMIAS, also made an appearance.

The film—also featuring Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyler, The Creator (not to mention roughly 150 total speaking parts)—hits a theater near you on Christmas Day. Don’t miss it. It’s one of the year’s absolute best, and my personal favorite.
