Taylor Swift’s The Official Release Party of a Showgirl, an accompaniment to her new album, topped the box office this weekend.

The currently listed Box Office Mojo domestic tally for the theatrical event, which notably isn’t a film in the traditional sense but instead features a music video and behind-the-scenes footage, stands at an estimated $33 million for its opening weekend.

That’s enough to best Paul Thomas Anderson’s undeniably excellent One Battle After Another, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, which earned an estimated $11,125,000 during its second week in theaters, bringing the acclaimed film’s current domestic total to just under $43 million. At the global box office, PTA’s latest, a surefire Best Picture contender and easily one of the best-reviewed films of the year, has surpassed $100 million.

New to theaters this weekend was Benny Safdie’s also excellent The Smashing Machine, led by a truly transformative performance from Dwayne Johnson as UFC champ Mark Kerr. Playing on around 350 less screens than Taylor’s event, the A24-backed drama’s opening weekend haul landed at around $6 million.

Showgirl’s worldwide total, meanwhile, currently stands at around $46 million.

Both One Battle After Another and The Smashing Machine will likely enjoy an awards season bump in the months ahead. For PTA, OBAA is already the highest-grossing entry in his filmography, a title previously held by his Oscar-winning 2007 drama There Will Be Blood.

All that to say, go see OBAA and Smashing Machine at your local theater if you haven't already.

ComplexCon returns to Las Vegas on October 25–26, 2025, with over 300 brands and live performances by Young Thug, YEAT & Friends, Peso Pluma, Central Cee, Ken Carson, and more. Get your tickets now.
