Jimmy Kimmel Convinces People Obama Is Officially Seeking a Third Term

Jimmy Kimmel easily convinced a bunch of people President Barack Obama is officially seeking a third term.

Jimmy Kimmel's admittedly been kinda killing it with his "Lie Witness News" segments recently, having convinced pedestrians Bill Clinton had a televised debate against Melania Trump and that Clownstick had released his tax returns. Neither of those things actually happened, but that apparently doesn't stop everyday peeps from buying into it. For his latest trick on the American people, Kimmel managed to convince them President Obama had announced plans to run for a third term.

"I think it's safe to say that this campaign hasn't done wonders for our national morale," Kimmel told his audience Thursday. "When there's an election, especially this one, as contentious as this is, there's a tendency to stop and appreciate what we have right now. So we had some fun with this." Two-term limit aside, people were immediately down for believing Kimmel's harmless lie about Obama giving the White House another go.

Obama himself riffed about the prospects of an impossible third term, joking to the African Union in Ethiopia in July 2015 that he could easily bag another victory. "I actually think I'm a pretty good President," Obama said at the time, according toCNN. "I think if I ran, I could win. But I can't. There's a lot that I’d like to do to keep America moving. But the law is the law, and no person is above the law, not even the president."

A poll taken over the summer found that a strong majority of Democrats are more than open to the idea. WPA Research data given to the Hill back in June showed that 67 percent of Democrats would be up for a third Obama term, while just 28 percent of Democrats said they're "ready to move on."
