Remember the time you drunkenly sent an all-caps email to your manager about his baffling affinity for pleated pants? What about the time you forwarded a selfie to your entire address book alongside 33 fire emoji? For the past six years, the Gmailteam has been testing a feature in public beta which should help prevent future follies of this nature. This week, the feature was finally added as a "formal setting" to Gmail.
The Undo Send was launched in beta in 2009, allowing for a longer-than-you-think five-second delay on the actual 'send' of your messages. Now that the feature has exited beta and is a full-time option for everyone, those options have increased to also include delays of 10, 20, and 30 seconds. Sadly, the feature is not currently available for mobile users (all users?) — though Googleis planning to unveil a proper mobile version sometime soon.
As of last month, Gmail boasts an impressive 900 million users — with a monthly average of smartphone app users totaling 90.7 million. Thankfully, those 900 million users will now have less ease when hastily crafting and sending a Channing Tatum-style email.
