Heated Rivalry is officially getting the musical treatment.
According to an exclusive article by People published March 31, Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody is set to take the stage May 12 for an off-Broadway production.
Following the success of the 2019 novel by Rachel Reid, the sizzling hockey romance was turned into a TV series that premiered on Crave and HBO Max on November 28, 2025. The LGBTQ series featured six episodes — and it quickly built a large fanbase after its release.
While the musical version of the book/TV series will draw inspiration from the source material, this is not going to be a loyal adaptation. Instead, the off-Broadway show will be a parody of the hockey romance story.
The off-Broadway musical parody of Heated Rivalry will star Jay Armstrong Johnson and Jimin Moon as the lead love interests. Armstrong Johnson and Moon are Broadway veterans, having starred in hit shows like Sunset Boulevard, Catch Me If You Can, and On the Town.
How Are Fans Reacting to the News?
While many Heated Rivalry enthusiasts can’t wait to score tickets for the upcoming musical parody, others are less on board. Some fans aren’t looking forward to seeing a spoof of their favorite TV show, and have expressed fear of the series getting overexposed, to the point of losing its charm.
After People dropped the news about the stage show on their official Instagram page, fans were quick to express mixed reactions.
“A parody? No thanks,” one commenter wrote.
“Love musicals and love ‘Heated Rivalry’ but is this really necessary?” said another.
“Can we not overexpose the one good thing we have?” a fan said in the comments.
“I mean if Rachel Reid agreed then sure,” another fan chimed in.
