Actress Lindsay Lohan recently shared that while her Mean Girls character Cady Heron fit in with the Plastics, she personally struggled to connect with her castmates offscreen.

In a Wednesday, August 6 interview with The New York Times, Lohan, 39, reflected on how close her young Freakier Friday co-stars are, and contrasted it with the dynamic she experienced with her Mean Girls cast back in 2004.

“It was hard because Rachel McAdams was so much older,” said Lohan during the interview. McAdams played Regina George in the teen comedy, and was 25 years old during filming. In contrast, Lohan was just 17.

The Parent Trap star noted that while she was closer in age to her Mean Girls costars Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert—who were 17 and 21 at the time—she still felt out of place. “I was in school,” she recalled. “Amanda and Lacey were always hanging out. It was hard for me to find where I fit in.”

Fans of the actress were quick to show their support and understanding.

"She couldn’t hang out as much because she had school while the other girls didn’t, and then the 25 year old and the 17 year old just had different interests/modes of being. It doesn’t mean they didn’t like each other. They just didn’t share similar interests," said one Reddit user. Another person agreed, adding, "There is nothing wrong with what she said. She was a teenager and McAdams was in her mid 20s. At that stage the age gap is quite large. They would have nothing in common."

Someone else also referenced McAdams, saying, "Rachel has also given her side of the story in the past, and she agrees. Haha she said herself she was too old to hang out with the rest of the cast."

Lohan is currently busy promoting Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to the beloved 2003 body-swap comedy. Reuniting with Jamie Lee Curtis, the film marks a major return to the spotlight for Lohan, who’s been attending premieres and press events ahead of its release. Freakier Friday is set to hit theaters on August 8.
