If you have seemingly pulled the same three cloaks from the Great Vault in World of Warcraft Midnight since its release, you’re not the only one — and it isn’t just a run of bad luck. It turns out that this “Curse of the Great Vault” is real, but less of a curse and more of a very annoying bug affecting loot drops.
According to Bellular Warcraft on YouTube, Blizzard has acknowledged ongoing loot issues, with reports of repeated same-slot drops dating back to mid-February. What this means is that the personal loot logic appears to be stuck in a loop, with players reporting that it repeatedly favors the same gear slots. This explains the endless Delve runs that only procure weapons or trinkets upon entering the treasure trove.
A hotfix is finally in the works, but there is a massive catch that has fans in a bit of a tizzy. The way the loot system works, there has been no indication that affected loot will be rolled back or compensated for, even though players feel they have missed out on better gear. Basically, until the bug is fixed, enjoy the loop of bad gear.
Specific Classes Are Also Glitching Out
The issues go even deeper for the new specializations that came with Midnight. Devour Demon Hunters and Augmentation Evokers have also reported issues where they are unable to roll on gear for their main specialization. The only way around this is to manually toggle your loot for another specific spec while in raids, so the game can recognize that you are a character in need of gear.
Luckily, there are still a few things to look forward to, including the 12.0.5 PTR (Public Test Realm) happening now, which Blizzard has said will include class updates. Early PTR notes suggest updates for Devour Demon Hunters, while Marksmanship Hunters may see Explosive Shot return.
While this has been a chaotic start to the Midnight expansion, the early rollout has frustrated players. At the very least, it suggests the issue may not be luck, but rather how the current loot system is functioning.
