Nintendo has responded to the censorship of the game Dispatch, which has left its nude scenes covered with black boxes.

The company released a statement to IGN about the popular video game that was released on the platform on Jan. 28 and was discovered to have its censorship toggle on by default.

"Nintendo requires all games on its platforms to receive ratings from independent organizations and to meet our established content and platform guidelines," said a Nintendo spokesperson. “While we inform partners when their titles don’t meet our guidelines, Nintendo does not make changes to partner content. We also do not discuss specific content or the criteria used in making these determinations."

Nintendo’s comments come amidst fans being upset that the game, known since its release for its significant adult content, has been censored by default for players on the platform. In fact, the censorship toggle isn’t just on — it’s removed from the options on the platform altogether.

When asked about the change for the Switch, developer AdHoc Studio said that it was because of Nintendo’s policies.

“Different platforms have different content criteria, and submissions are evaluated individually," said the studio to Eurogamer.

"We worked with Nintendo to ensure the content within the title met the criteria to release on their platforms, but the core narrative and gameplay experience remain identical to the original release,” the studio said.
