Teddi Mellencamp and estranged husband Edwin Arroyave were the targets of an attempted burglary at their California home.
According to law enforcement sources and footage shared by Arroyave on Instagram, two intruders were caught on camera scaling the property's gate and running toward the home in Encino on Monday night. However, the couple's advanced home security system went off, alerting authorities and scaring off the suspects before any damage was done.
"We are grateful that everyone is unharmed," Mellencamp and Arroyave told TMZ. While we are shaken, we are fortunate to have the latest in home security systems, which scared off the intruders. Authorities were alerted and swiftly responded. We appreciate everyone's heightened concern in light of recent criminal activities in our area, but we are safe."
Sources also told TMZ that the suspects had just burglarized a neighboring home moments before targeting Mellencamp and Arroyave's property. At the time of the incident, both Mellencamp and Arroyave, who filed for divorce in 2024 after 13 years of marriage, were home. Despite their ongoing divorce proceedings, the pair share four children.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the attempted burglary, and no arrests have been made as of press time. This isn't the first instance where Mellencamp's name was tied to a home burglary on a property she owns. Pop Smoke was shot and killed in a break-in at a home he was renting from Mellencamp and Arroyave in 2020.
"Foremost, we would like to extend our prayers and condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss of life," Mellencamp wrote in an Instagram post regarding the shooting.
