Margot Robbie is opening up about a sweet behind-the-scenes moment with co-star Jacob Elordi that ended up shaping one of the most romantic scenes in the upcoming film Wuthering Heights.

In a conversation with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans alongside fellow cast member Alison Oliver, Robbie revealed that what audiences will see on screen during one particularly notable scene wasn’t originally scripted; it happened naturally during a rehearsal. According to Robbie, the crew was simply testing the rain machine to make sure the water level looked right for the scene.

“The rain machine is on ’cause we were checking if the rain machine level was right. And I was going like that because the rain had started,” she said, explaining how she covered her forehead with her hands as the water began falling.

When she looked up at Elordi, he immediately reacted without thinking.

“Of course, when you’re acting with Jacob, you’re like, looking up like this all the time,” Robbie joked about her 6’5” costar, before continuing. “So, I went like that, and he just automatically went to cover my face because he’s a gentleman.”

Robbie added that the gesture seemed completely natural for Elordi.

“That’s the second nature to him – he just automatically went like that,” she said.

The moment instantly caught the attention of director Emerald Fennell, who was watching the rehearsal unfold. Robbie recalled that both she and Fennell stopped everything as soon as they saw it happen.

“Honestly, both Emerald and I just went, ‘Okay, stop,’” she said. “And he was not aware that he had done anything chivalrous or romantic at all.”

What began as a simple technical test quickly became a defining part of the scene.

“We were just like, ‘That was the most romantic thing I have experienced and seen, so do that for the whole scene,’” Robbie shared. “And then we made that the scene.”

The new adaptation of Wuthering Heights has already drawn major attention, with Fennell directing and a cast that blends established stars with rising talent. The film arrives in theaters on February 13.
