Billy Porter didn't hold back when asked about Nicki Minaj and her recent support of Donald Trump, making his feelings clear while walking the red carpet at a MusiCares gala.
During a red carpet conversation with a reporter at the high-profile event, the topic shifted to Minaj, whose political stance supporting Trump — and her related attacks on Trump critic Gavin Newsom for his stated support of trans children — has sparked widespread discussion and divided fans. Porter wasted no time expressing his disapproval, explaining that he personally cannot disconnect an artist's work from their personal beliefs.
"Fuck her," Porter said plainly.
He then expanded on his point, adding, "When people show you who they are, believe them the first time," before loudly repeating, "Fuuuuuuck herrrrr."
Porter went even further, broadening his frustration beyond Minaj alone.
"And all of them! shame!" he added.
Porer, known for speaking openly on social and political issues, quickly made waves online with his comments, with fans and critics alike reacting to his fiery remarks.
Minaj's public support of Trump extended to an appearance at the Trump Accounts Summit last week. At the event, Minaj held Trump's hand and said she was his "number one fan.”
The MusiCares gala at which Porter made his comments was put on to celebrate Mariah Carey's impact on music and philanthropy. His unexpected take quickly became one of the night's most talked-about moments.
