There's no shortage of ways to earn a living in 2026 — from side hustles and startups to content creation. For some, platforms like OnlyFans have turned into full-blown careers. But one Florida politician wants to make that a whole lot more expensive.

On Tuesday, March 17, CNN's Donie O'Sullivan shared a clip from his new short film The OnlyFans 'Sin Tax' on social media.

"Florida's OnlyFans girls are speaking out against a 50% 'sin tax' on OnlyFans creators," he captioned the post, noting that the tax was proposed by James Fishback, a Republican candidate running for governor of Florida.

One of the creators featured in the film is Anya Lacey, a 19-year-old conservative OnlyFans star and self-described "trad wife" with over 1 million followers on Instagram. The Florida native, who got her start building Legos on TikTok Live before being flooded with DMs asking her to join the platform, didn’t hold back. "This state is covered in strip clubs," she pointed out in the CNN segment. "It's silly to say, like, 'Oh, we're going to have morals now.'"

The influencer doubled down in a separate statement, calling for consistency. "This isn't just about me or any one creator," she said. "If you want to call something a sin, then be consistent. Tax the alcohol. Tax the tobacco. Tax the strip clubs. You don't get to pick and choose who gets punished based on your personal beliefs."

Fishback, a hedge fund manager who first pitched the tax during a January appearance on the conservative podcast NXR Studios, has framed it as a way to combat "cultural degeneracy" and raise an estimated $200 million for education. He is running to succeed term-limited Gov. Ron DeSantis, though he trails frontrunner Rep. Byron Donalds by a wide margin in recent GOP primary polls.

Lacey is far from the only creator pushing back. Sophie Rain, one of the highest-earning creators on the platform, also appeared in O'Sullivan's film and has previously called the proposal "insane" on X (formerly Twitter).

"I love what I do and I'm not going to apologize for it," Lacey added. "I started on TikTok building Legos. Now I run my own business, pay my own taxes, and answer to nobody. If that bothers someone running for office, that sounds like a him problem."
