For individuals who paint sugar skulls on their faces but don’t know the cultural significance behind Dia de los Muertos, a trio of film students created an animated short to help you out.

In the three and a half minute video uploaded to YouTube, a young girl visits her mother’s grave before being dragged down into the land of the dead. While cavorting with the dearly departed, she learns the true meaning of the holiday. Spoiler alert: It's about gathering with friends and family to honor the lives of those who have passed on.
