In his appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay, Nick Cannon explained why he was not only unbothered by Orlando Brown’s joke about the Wild’n Out creator once performing oral sex on him, but actually thought it was “hilarious.”
When the topic was broached by Sharpe, Cannon was quick to heap praise on Brown before revealing he wants to bring him on Wild’n Out. While Cannon considers Brown to be “genius,” he also believes that his level of talent, coupled with mental health, requires a certain level of care.
“Now, when you’re dealing with genius, there’s also a balance when we’re dealing with our mental health,” he said at the 48:18 mark. “Artists need a great support system.”
Cannon added, “When you come up as a kid and you’re an artist and you got genius in you, then people don’t handle you with the delicate energy that you may need.”
Cannon said he views Brown as a “wounded genius,” who is actively looking to better himself, while also finding ways to satiate his desire for attention.
“You see him seeking,” he said. “You see him constantly going back to the church. You see him trying to be a good father. The dude is a brilliant dude, but he also knows how to play the internet game.”
Brown sought that attention in Dec. 2024 when he claimed on Deshae Frost’s Twitch stream that Mariah Carey broke up with Cannon after finding out he was having an affair with the That’s So Raven star.
“When it came down to Nick Cannon, he really do like to suck cannons, and that’s what he does. He sucked a good cannon on me,” Brown said. “Nick, you sucked my dick, and don’t you ever forget it. That’s why Mariah Carey left your ass and you lying, n***a.”
Cannon did not take the allegation serious, responding, “I think he's in a mental space where he's knows he's trolling. He don't give a fuck.”
“It was hilarious,” Cannon told Sharpe. “But the unfortunate thing is, because there is such a seriousness in this industry and in the world, with things like, adults and people in power taking advantage of young kids, so we wanna believe everything that he says. Whether he’s joking, whether he’s doing it for the clicks, you wanna respect anybody that says something like that.”
Cannon believes Wild’n Out would be “perfect” for Brown’s brand of comedy where “they’ve said way worse shit.”
“I can never get mad at somebody like that,” Cannon said of Brown. “I got mad at the system. A headline like that could go viral, and it was hilarious.”
