Tinkerbell Is a Drug Addict in 'Peter Pan' Horror Reimagining

Tinkerbell gets a 'twisted' backstory in the new Scott Chambers-directed film.

Tinkerbell gets a dark reimagining in upcoming horror flick, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, which shows the titular character as a blood-thirsty child predator.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, nonbinary actor Kit Green will star as Tinkerbell, a silent, spirited fairy and sidekick to Peter.

Director Scott Chambers described the relationship between the two characters as "very fucked up” and "very twisted," with Peter (Martin Portlock) refusing to allow Tinkerbell join the Lost Boys.

"She didn't fit the criteria to actually be sent fully to Neverland,” Chambers told EW. "Then he says, however, you can be something else. You can be this fairy, you can be magical, but you've got to help me. I'll give you this pixie dust, and if you keep taking it ... Every time you are good, you can have some."

The "pixie dust" is actually heroin, making Neverland Nightmare live up to its name. The Peter Pan play copyright expired in 2024, and the 1911 Peter and Wendy novel is in the public domain, following Winnie the Pooh and Mickey Mouse short Steamboat Willie.

The latter two have also been reimagined as horror films with the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey franchise and Screamboat, which releases to theaters on Jan. 25.

In the Disney-to-horror pipeline are also Bambi: The Reckoning and Pinocchio: Unstrung, while Chambers, who also has a cameo as Christopher Robin in Nightmare, teased an Avengers-type showdown starring Mad Hatter and Mary Poppins.

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare will have a limited run in selected theaters from Jan. 13 to Jan. 15. Tickets are available now.
