Samuel Monroe Jr., star of 1990s classic Black films Menace II Society and The Players Club, has been placed back on life support after showing signs of declining health.

Last month, it was reported that the actor, 52, was diagnosed with MRSA pneumonia in addition to having a prolonged battle with meningitis, which is inflammation of tissues surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Monroe’s mother, Joyce Patton, called for prayers in a Facebook post and shared a picture of her son, who appeared to have been lying in a hospital bed.

The actor began suffering from meningitis complications after it went undiagnosed and untreated for 8 months after he filmed a project in Las Vegas. Earlier this month, Monroe reportedly showed health improvement, including being able to stop dialysis along with the discontinuation of blood pressure medication and being able to breathe without the assistance of a ventilator for up to 4 hours.

In a new report from TMZ, it was shared that Monroe’s health has recently seen a downturn, with him being placed back on life support and in a medically-induced coma. The actor has received 3 blood transfusions within the span of days and has returned to being on dialysis.

A GoFundMe with the goal of $50,000 has been created by the actor’s step-daughter, Tayonna, to support Monroe and his family through medical care.

“In the event of Samuel regains consciousness and is removed from life support. Samuel will require round-the-clock care for a year or more the doctors are saying,” the fundraiser description reads.

Tayonna added that while family and friends refuse to think negatively about whether Monroe’s health continues to decline, proceeds raised could also go towards a memorial service.
