Quinton Aaron, the actor widely recognized for his role as Michael Oher in The Blind Side, has been placed on life support following a sudden medical emergency that began with a fall inside his home.
According to statements shared with TMZ by Aaron’s wife, Margarita, the 41-year-old actor is currently receiving intensive care after doctors identified a serious blood infection.
The update marks a significant shift from earlier reports that described his condition as stable. Margarita said Aaron is now using life-support equipment to assist his breathing, though not entirely on his own.
“He’s a fighter,” she told the outlet, adding that there have been signs of progress. “He’s showing a lot of improvement. We all have faith in God that he will walk out of here fully recovered.”
Aaron was initially hospitalized after collapsing while walking up the stairs in his apartment. According to his wife, he suddenly lost feeling in his legs, prompting an urgent trip to the hospital.
After several days of testing, doctors determined he was dealing with a severe blood infection, though additional evaluations are ongoing to understand the root cause.
Earlier fundraising pages circulating online had suggested Aaron was “fighting for his life,” language that family members have since clarified while emphasizing both the seriousness of the situation and their hope for recovery.
Representatives for Aaron have asked for privacy as medical teams continue treatment.
This is not the first major health scare Aaron has faced in recent years. In March 2025, he was hospitalized in Southern California after developing a fever and coughing up blood. At the time, Aaron said doctors believed he was suffering from complications related to Type A influenza and pneumonia.
He had also been hospitalized in 2019 for an upper respiratory infection and bronchitis flare-up.
Following that earlier hospitalization, Aaron shared a brief recovery update on social media. “I’m out, everything is all good,” he said in a video that was later deleted. “I’m gonna go take my medicines… I’m about to go home and take a nap because I’m tired.”
Despite ongoing health challenges, Aaron had recently spoken publicly about positive changes in his life. In October 2025, he revealed he had lost approximately 200 pounds as part of a long-term effort to improve his health.
The 6-foot-8 actor said he had reduced his weight from 575 pounds to around 375, with a goal of reaching 320.
Aaron rose to prominence in 2009, starring opposite Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw in The Blind Side. His career has also included appearances on Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, Mercy, and Harry’s Law, as well as work in independent films and music projects.
