Unless there's a change in plans, Ryan Coogler won't be making a Sinners sequel.

The director spoke to EBONY about his latest blockbuster flick and expressed wanting the project to be different than the franchises he helmed, like Creed and Black Panther. In a historic move, Coogler secured the rights to Sinners, meaning that ownership of the film will revert back to him 25 years in the future.

In the EBONY interview, Coogler said he "never" thinks about the potential of making a Sinners 2. "I’ve been in a space of making franchise films for a bit, so I wanted to get away from that," he continued. "I was looking forward to working on a film that felt original and personal to me and had an appetite for delivering something to audiences that was original and unique."

The filmmaker added that he wanted audiences to leave satisfied with a "full meal." "I wanted it to be a holistic and finished thing. That was how I was asked all about it. That was always my intention," he said.

While Sinners hits VOD on Tuesday (June 3), viewers couldn't get enough of horror and period drama, many watching it multiple times for its box office draw to cross $350 million.
