Charlize Theron took on the role of a daredevil this week when she climbed a Times Square billboard to promote her new Netflix movie, Apex.
On Friday (April 24) the Academy Award winner took to the sky by scaling a promotional billboard in New York City. Theron, who wore all-white for the occasion, masterfully reached the top and took in the city view before announcing that the film was available to stream.
"Don’t make me climb a wall in Times Square for nothing!" she joked.
The adrenalizing stunt is similar to actor-musician Jared Leto scaling the Empire State Building in 2023 to announce the Thirty Seconds to Mars world tour the following year.
"As many of you also know, I love to climb. It’s one of the few things I’ve found that takes me away from some of the pressures of life and helps me to find a bit of freedom and equanimity," Leto said at the time.
Apex, a survival action-thriller film which co-stars Eric Bana and Taron Egerton, follows Sasha (Theron), who is hunted in the Australian wilderness by a former companion. This week, the actor appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers and revealed that the most uncomfortable part of rock climbing was using chalk.
"I don't like dry, chalky things on my fingers. I don't know if I could ever really be a rock climber," Theron admitted around the 2-minute mark of the video above.
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Theron opened up about a traumatic event in her life, when her mother fatally shot her abusive father, who she revealed was a functioning alcoholic.
