Swapped, an upcoming Skydance Animation film, stars Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple. This marks one of Jordan’s first projects since his Oscar-winning role in Sinners.
Jordan appeared in a short clip before the trailer, sitting alongside his young niece and nephew. “This is my uncle Mike,” his nephew said to the camera, which made Jordan laugh before delivering his own lines. “We hope you like it,” his niece added at the end.
This new animated film tells the tale of a small woodland creature, voiced by Jordan, and a majestic bird, voiced by Temple. The two animals are natural sworn enemies who suddenly swap bodies. It’s described by Deadline as a buddy comedy that forces the pair to team up to “survive the wildest adventure of their lives.”
Swapped was directed by Nathan Greno, who worked on the Disney hit, Tangled. The trailer also announced that the “visionary behind Toy Story” was involved in the project. Tracy Morgan, Cedric the Entertainer, and Justina Machado are part of the voice cast.
After the official poster was released, some fans were concerned about this being Jordan’s first project after his big win. As one Reddit user said, “Oh god, it’s going to be another situation where an actor has a pulp/paycheck project coming out right after a major success and everyone acts like he ran to the studio after the Oscars and immediately sold out.”
However, others are excited about the project. As another stated, “Saw the trailer. I don't know about ya’ll, but that one shot of the villain completely sold me on the film.”
“I don't think this'll be an Oscar thing to be honest, but it'll be pretty feel-good,” another said. “Also cool flex for them to add Academy Award winner to MBJ's name.”
Swapped is releasing on Netflix on May 1.
