The Sopranos star James Gandolfini didn’t attend the wedding for his on-screen daughter, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, when she married her first husband in 2003. She opened up about the disappointing experience in her new memoir, And So It Is…A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope.
“Jim didn’t show up,” Sigler said, according to Page Six. “No indication, no warning. I can’t say for certain why. He’s not here, so I can’t ask him.”
She continued, “The Jim I knew wouldn’t have just skipped my wedding without a word or an excuse. Part of me wonders if maybe he didn’t want it for me.”
Even when she returned to the set for the first table read after her wedding, she revealed that she didn’t get any smiles or congratulations from him. “It was clear: none of them were happy about this for me,” she said. “It would take me two long years to understand why.”
Sigler separated from her first husband in 2005 and has called the relationship “toxic and complicated.” In an interview with Us Weekly, when speaking about her ex-husband, she said, “I knew that I didn’t want to be with him, but I was terrified to be without him. Who would protect me? I had no idea about my finances. I had no idea about anything. Could there have been things that he said back then to make me feel that I would never survive without him, sure, but I also think that I felt that whether he had said that or not, because I was so dependent on him for my survival and to protect me.”
She continued, “I was constantly in fight or flight. I was constantly in survival mode, and that kind of became my new normal for the next almost decade after that.”
And So It Is…A Memoir of Acceptance and Hope was released on May 5. It is available now.
