There is exciting news for fans of popular author Freida McFadden and A-list actor Sydney Sweeney. Lionsgate has recently announced that there will soon be a new project in the works that will be a sequel to the smash hit The Housemaid. The Housemaid, which is based on the first book of a trilogy by McFadden, was released on December 19, 2025. It has been a massive success, raking in $133 million in just two-and-a-half-weeks.

The psychological thriller stars Sydney Sweeney, Brandon Sklenar, Amanda Seyfried, and Michele Morrone. It was directed by Paul Feig.

Not only has it been revealed that there will be a sequel to the film, but it has also been announced that Sweeney will be returning to play the role of the primary character, Millie. She will be joined by her former co-star, Morrone, who will return to his role of Enzo. Feig will also be returning to direct the project.

Feig has made a point to credit McFadden for the work she has done in creating a story that has connected with so many people.

“We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences,” he said.

The film, just like the book it is based on, will be entitled The Housemaid’s Secret. Filming will begin later this year.

Adam Fogelson, who is Lionsgate’s motion picture group chair, spoke out on the decision to move forward with the sequel.

“It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next,” he said.

“We believed in these stories from the very beginning, and we are beyond excited to bring the next chapter of Millie’s story to life on-screen in collaboration with our outstanding creative partners Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney,” Fogelson continued.
