As the federal suspension of SNAP benefits leaves millions without food assistance, a strange interaction on social media has raised eyebrows.
On Friday, OnlyFans’ Sophie Rain posted a video announcing she would personally cover grocery costs for struggling families. “I used to live off food stamps, so I get it,” she said.
“This week, I’m gonna be paying for people’s groceries.”
The post quickly went viral.
Rain, who has over 4 million followers, began receiving hundreds of requests.
Then, a message from Uber’s verified account showed up in the replies, “Xoxosamyo on PayPal.” It was deleted shortly after, but screenshots rapidly spread across the platform.
“Uber, you better start paying your social media interns more because this is CRAZY,” Rain responded in a follow-up post, sharing a screenshot of the now-deleted comment.
Speaking to The Blast, Rain said the message caught her off guard.
“Didn’t think I’d be Instacarting groceries to Uber this week, but here we are,” she said. “I get hundreds of payment requests a day, but seeing a verified Uber account with crying emojis and a PayPal handle threw me. At first I thought someone hacked their account. Then I realized, no, this is probably just an underpaid intern trying to get fed like the rest of us. So I sent the money. What else am I gonna do, let Uber go hungry?”
Rain also criticized the company directly.
“If your social media intern is out here publicly asking OnlyFans girls for help with groceries, maybe your company should take a break from the self-driving cars and pay them a livable wage. Just a thought.”
Despite the bizarre moment, Rain has continued her grocery aid campaign. Receipts on X show she’s sent hundreds of dollars at a time to individuals who commented with their needs.
One person received $200 in Colorado. Another who didn’t expect help got $275.
“I’m hoping this inspires other creators to step up because we are in a position to make a change,” she said.
The viral moment unfolded as the Trump administration warned states to halt any efforts to extend SNAP benefits.
The Agriculture Department issued a memo late Saturday threatening penalties for noncompliance.
SNAP supports over 42 million Americans. Without it, food insecurity is surging.
