Ye and Kid Cudi’s Kids See Ghosts vinyl is available on Complex.
West and Cudi’s desire to make a joint album together had been in the air long before Kids See Ghosts came to life. The project finally arrived on June 8, 2018, through GOOD Music, Wicked Awesome, and Def Jam—recorded largely at West Lake Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming between 2016 and 2018. It arrived as part of a remarkable run that also included West's solo album Ye, released just days earlier.
For Cudi, the album marked his return following 2016's Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin', and the result was something neither artist had made before—a psychedelic, progressive rap record that clocked in at just under 24 minutes across seven tracks.
The album draws contributions from Pusha T, Yasiin Bey, Ty Dolla Sign, and a posthumous vocal sample from Louis Prima, with production credits stretching from Dot da Genius and Mike Dean to Justin Vernon, André 3000, Benny Blanco, and Cashmere Cat, among others. The cover art came from Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami, whose distinctive visual style gave the project an identity as striking as the music inside.
