Skai Jackson has made it very clear where she stands when it comes to her money — and there’s no exceptions for friends or family.
In an interview with Justin Laboy which was shared on Thursday (May 21), the actor was asked how she finds the "strength" to say no when friends and family members ask her for money.
"I just say no," she said around the 28:45 minute mark in the video below, explaining that the conversation is over once she says no. "If you just say no, there's no response. … It's just like, 'Oh, well, she said no. Okay.'"
When Laboy said he has historically tried to find a way to "meet people halfway," Jackson told him: "You can’t do that." She continued: "People real close to me, like my best, best friends, they have never even asked me for money."
"People that I haven't heard from in years are like, 'Oh, my card's not working. Can you get me an Uber?' I'm like, 'No, you should have thought about that,'" she added. "Someone did reach out. They were like, 'My brother's not answering. Can you call me an Uber, and I need some food?' I said, 'That's not my problem.'"
In the 2010s, the 24-year-old rose to fame as Zuri Ross in the Disney Channel comedy series Jessie and later in the spin-off series Bunk'd. She also voiced characters in the Marvel Rising franchise and DreamWorks Dragons: Rescue Riders, and, in 2023, starred in the film Sheroes.
In 2019, she released her memoir, Reach for the Skai: How to Inspire, Empower, and Clapback. She also welcomed her son, Kasai, in January 2025 with her then-boyfriend, Deondre Burgin.
