Scenes from Lee Daniels’ film The Deliverance have been trending online all weekend.

The Netflix pic stars Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Andra Day, and Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and is Daniels’ first foray into the horror genre.

Prior to its release last Friday, the filmmaker took to X, writing, “Every Black person knows an Alberta. She’s part of the fabric of our community, but we’ve never seen her on screen before. Thank you Glenn for bringing her magnificently to life.”

People on X had a lot to say about his remark, with many wondering what Daniels was even talking about.

Daniels was clearly hyped for Close’s performance, having also previously tweeted, “Y’all are not ready for Glenn in this.”

Inspired by true events, The Deliverance follows the story of Ebony (Day), who’s raising her three children on her own when her recovering addict mother, Alberta (Close) moves in to help care for the kids. While Ebony has to deal with visits from a social worker (Mo’Nique), a demon possesses the kids. A pastor (Ellis-Taylor) attempts to dispel the evil spirit.

The Deliverance is now streaming on Netflix.
