When Kim Kardashian wore Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala in 2022, rumors swirled that the reality TV star damaged it.
Well, Kim finally set the record straight when she sat down to take Vanity Fair’s lie detector test, where she and Teyana Taylor took turns asking each other questions.
“I wanna settle this for once and for all, right? Did you whoop Marilyn Monroe's dress?” Teyana asked at around the 10:55 minute mark of video below.
“No,” Kim said. “So you're saying that it got to you already whooped?” Teyana responded.
“I don't know how it got to me, but it's perfect now,” Kim replied.
When Taylor inquired as to who fixed it, Kardashian said, “I don’t know.”
Taylor continued to press Kim about the condition of the dress when she tried it on, prompting Kim to laughingly say, “You're gonna cost me like $10 million in insurance. Let's move on.”
When Kim asked the woman administering the test if she was being truthful, the woman said, “All of it is true.”
“Yay! Wait, why are you shocked?” Teyana asked Kim, who definitely seemed to have a surprised look on her face. “I’m not,” Kim said.
Kim borrowed Marilyn’s dress from Ripley's Believe It or Not!, which purchased the dress in 2016 for almost $5 million. Reports later surfaced that Kardashian damaged the dress, particularly as photos that allegedly showed the dress’s state before she wore it made the rounds online. A representative for Ripley’s refuted the speculation, explaining that the photo of the damaged dress was taken before Ripley’s obtained the piece.
