One of Dave Franco’s first roles was in Superbad, in which Jonah Hill’s character calls out Franco’s character for pissing his pants.
While the appearance was major for Franco, he said the role followed him long after the movie's release. In a new episode of Call Her Daddy, the actor shared with host Alex Cooper what he did to mitigate the unfortunate "piss boy" association.
“I had a journey with that scene in and of itself where I only have a few lines in this movie, but the movie was so big that people did recognize me on the street, and they were yelling at me, ‘Why don’t you go piss your pants again?’” Franco explained at around the 12:30 minute mark of the video above. “And I quickly realized, I gotta keep working and get more jobs so I’m not 'piss boy' for the rest of my life.”
In Franco’s scene, Seth (Hill) interrupts Evan’s (Michael Cera) soccer practice to reveal that Seth’s crush, Jules (Emma Stone) and her friends asked him to buy them alcohol for Jules’ party. At some point, Greg (Franco) runs by and yells, “What the fuck, Evan? We’re down two points.”
Evan responds, “Fucking calm down, Greg, it’s soccer.”
“Fuck you, man,” Greg says, prompting Seth to say, “Hey Greg, why don’t you go piss your pants again?”
“That was like eight years ago, asshole,” Greg says.
“People don’t forget,” Seth replies.
Franco's latest offering is Together, which he co-produced and stars in alongside his wife, Alison Brie. While shooting the supernatural body horror film, Franco and Brie were literally connected at the hip with prosthetics.
"We're going to the bathroom together. We're shooting a scene where poor Dave—I'm sitting on his lap for the whole scene, because, you know, we're attached," Brie said. "We could forgo the politeness you would have with another actor."
Together is currently in theaters.
