After years of pre-taped endings, Survivor is bringing back one of its most talked-about traditions just in time for a milestone season.
According to TV Insider, during the 83rd Golden Globe Awards ceremony on Sunday, January 11, host Jeff Probst revealed that the long-running CBS series will once again close out its run with a live finale — and this time, fans across the country are being invited to take part.
The announcement came in the form of a commercial that confirmed the return of a live Survivor finale for Season 50, which premieres on February 25.
The ad also unveiled a major incentive tied to the previously announced Survivor 50 Challenge: tickets to the live finale will be awarded as the grand prize.
The decision to revive the live finale was one of several options presented to viewers during Season 48 as part of the show’s “In the Hands of the Fans” vote. These results mark the first official reveal tied to the show's landmark Season 50.
To build momentum, CBS is rolling out the Survivor 50 Challenge, a nationwide, multi-week event that kicks off on January 30. The challenge invites participants of all ages to step into the game themselves through a massive scavenger-style hunt spanning all 50 states. Hidden across the country are 50 authentic hidden immunity idols — one per state — each tied to a single winner.
Finding an idol comes with more than bragging rights. Every winner will receive an invitation for themselves and a guest to attend the live Survivor Season 50 finale, joining fans from across the U.S. for the historic event.
Each state’s challenge has been designed to reflect local flavor and terrain. According to CBS, clues and puzzles may lead participants through caves in Kentucky, icy landscapes in New Hampshire, Louisiana bayous, scenic hiking trails, and even a Kansas-based nod to Probst’s own roots.
Fans who want in can register at Survivor50Challenge.com, where CBS will share alerts, clues, updates, rewards, and exclusive digital content tied to the event. Clue drop dates will vary by state, encouraging participants to stay tuned as the challenge unfolds.
