The final saga of One Piece just added another major piece to its endgame mythology. New manga chapters released this month introduced what appears to be the series’ last and most powerful Devil Fruit ability yet: the Akuma no Mi, wielded by world ruler Nerona Imu.
According to Gamer Rant, the reveal arrives as creator Eiichiro Oda pushes the Elbaph arc deeper into what has effectively become the setup for One Piece’s long-promised Great War. According to the newly released chapters, Imu’s ability allows them to transform into “the Devil itself,” separating the Akuma no Mi from traditional Devil Fruits already established throughout the series.
Unlike earlier powers, the manga reportedly presents the fruit’s name differently in Japanese text, emphasizing that it exists on an entirely different level from standard abilities.
The development also completes what fans are now calling One Piece’s “God Trinity.” The first major reveal came back in Chapter 1044, when Monkey D. Luffy awakened the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika and officially became the Sun God Nika.
More recently, the Elbaph storyline confirmed that Loki possesses the legendary Nidhoggr ability, tied to the Warrior God of Elbaph and a giant black dragon that once battled Nika centuries earlier.
“In Elbaph, we have a legend about a Warrior God,” Elder Jarul explains in Chapter 1175. “He wielded a weapon known as Ragnir — Iron Lightning — and turned into an enormous dragon to face off against the Sun God Nika.”
The story later confirms Loki as the newest wielder of that power, placing him directly opposite Imu as the arc approaches its climax.
The escalation comes as One Piece continues its massive mainstream expansion outside manga and anime circles. The franchise has spent the last year pushing deeper into Western pop culture through live-action adaptations, theme park activations, and even food partnerships, including the recently leaked Popeyes collaboration built around Luffy-themed menu items.
At the same time, the manga has increasingly focused on mythology, ancient history, and god-level powers as it nears its conclusion.
According to Oda’s recent Jump Festa comments, the Elbaph arc will conclude in 2026 before the Straw Hats head toward “that island” tied to the Pirate King.
