The Dragon Ball Super franchise is getting a major visual overhaul.

During the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan, for which Variety was in attendance, the series’ producers revealed the first trailer for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a fully remastered version of the anime set to debut in fall 2026.

Rather than a simple cleanup, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is being positioned as a ground-up rebuild of the original television run.

According to the announcement, every episode has been re-rendered with new animation cuts, revised scene compositions, upgraded sound design, and a newly recorded musical score.

The voice cast has also returned to re-record dialogue.

The reveal took place during a live stage presentation at Makuhari Messe, with longtime franchise voice actors Masako Nozawa (Goku) and Koichi Yamadera (Beerus) joining executive producer Akio Iyoku to introduce the project.

The teaser trailer and key visuals debuted at the event.

Story-wise, the remastered series revisits the arc that introduced Beerus, the God of Destruction. The plot centers on Beerus awakening from an extended slumber and setting his sights on Earth after learning of a Saiyan powerful enough to defeat Frieza. That discovery inevitably puts him on a collision course with Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters.

Producers described the project as a way to more closely align the anime with the original concepts and designs created by Akira Toriyama, using modern animation tools that weren’t available during the show’s initial broadcast. The goal, they said, is to heighten visual immersion—especially during large-scale battles—without altering the core story fans already know.

The Genkidamatsuri event also included news of an entirely separate series, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which will continue the timeline beyond the “Universe Survival Arc.”

Originally launched in 1984 through Weekly Shonen Jump, the Dragon Ball universe remains one of the most enduring properties in global pop culture. Most recently, the franchise marked its 40th anniversary with the 2024 release of Dragon Ball Daima.
