Naturi Naughton is stepping into a new chapter, and she’s doing it the old-fashioned way.
The Power alum says she feels “like some kind of superwoman” after dropping nearly 30 pounds in nine months—without turning to GLP-1 medications. Instead, she committed to a full reset: mindset first, then movement, then everything else.
In a recent conversation tied to her upcoming role in Friends and Lovers, Naughton reflected on the moment she realized she needed a change. Despite winning the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Television Movie, she admitted she didn’t feel fully comfortable in her skin at the time.
The shift began there. “I didn’t feel as confident in my clothes and in my own skin,” she told People. “I made a mental shift that I was going to have to eat and work out differently.”
Her goal became “elevation”—a word she kept coming back to throughout the journey. Working with trainer Jerry Joseph, Naughton focused on rebuilding her strength and reshaping her daily routine. That meant consistent workouts, rethinking her eating habits, and centering her mental health. She didn’t rely on shortcuts or injectables; she put in the work herself.
Naughton says the real turning point wasn’t the scale—it was when her family noticed the change. Her husband, Two Lewis, along with her kids, Tru and Zuri, became part of her support system and even joined her workouts. “After having two children, it was about taking back control of my body,” she explained. Feeling stronger made her want to keep going.
The actress also acknowledged moments where social media criticism made things harder, describing negative comments about her body as a distraction. But regaining clarity became part of the transformation. “I know the version of me that I’m happy with,” she said. “I don’t care what anybody else says… it’s all worth it in the end.”
For Naughton, the weight loss was inseparable from a bigger internal shift. She emphasized that the physical changes occurred only after her mindset changed. “If your mind is committed to doing something, everything else will follow,” she said.
Now, she feels more energized, confident, and grounded. “I feel young again,” she shared. And she hopes others take away one message: trust the process and stand on your word. “Keep your word, believe in yourself,” she said. “If you believe you can do it, you will.”
