Comedian Nate Bargatze is facing backlash from some fans after photos surfaced showing him at UFC Freedom 250, the controversial fight card held on the White House South Lawn. Bargatze has spent years cultivating a largely apolitical public image, making his presence at one of the year's most politically charged entertainment events a surprise to many followers.

The criticism intensified after actress Cheryl Hines shared a photo featuring Bargatze alongside her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Additional images and video from the event showed Bargatze among the crowd as Trump, UFC executives, cabinet officials, athletes, and celebrities gathered for the historic card. While some critics interpreted the appearance as a political statement, The Daily Beast reported that a source close to Bargatze said he attended because of his passion for mixed martial arts, not politics.

Per the report, UFC is Bargatze's "favorite sport," and the comedian decided to attend despite understanding that his presence would likely generate headlines. The report also claimed that Bargatze’s appearance was "not political," noting that he regularly interacts with public figures from across the political spectrum. The comedian himself did not publicly comment on the event or post about the experience on his social media accounts.

The scrutiny comes at a particularly visible moment in Bargatze's career. The Emmy-nominated comic has become one of the biggest names in stand-up comedy thanks to his family-friendly material and sold-out tours. He has repeatedly said he prefers to keep politics separate from his comedy. He also stated that there are already plenty of celebrities sharing political opinions and that he prefers "to do the opposite."

The controversy unfolded against the backdrop of one of the most talked-about UFC events ever staged. UFC Freedom 250 generated headlines for everything from Dana White bringing a fight card to the White House to championship shakeups inside the cage.

The event also drew criticism over several moments outside the Octagon, including fighter Josh Hokit's inflammatory post-fight remarks about former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Fellow comedian Shane Gillis later said he "didn't love" the comments, while Bargatze has not publicly addressed them.
