Judge Greg Mathis and his longtime wife, Linda, have officially put their divorce behind them.
According to newly filed court records obtained by TMZ, Linda requested that the divorce case be dismissed without prejudice earlier this week, and the court formally entered the filing the following day. The move closes the legal chapter on a separation that briefly threatened to end the couple’s nearly four-decade marriage.
Linda originally filed for divorce in August 2024, one month after the pair separated. Court documents at the time cited irreconcilable differences after 39 years of marriage.
But by the fall of that year, the couple had already begun reconciling. They publicly confirmed in November 2024 that they were back together and working through the issues that led to the split.
Judge Mathis has spent decades building a public image around resilience, family, and second chances. Long before becoming one of television’s most recognizable courtroom personalities, Mathis overcame a troubled childhood in Detroit, juvenile arrests, and a jail sentence before turning his life around with the help of mentors, including civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson.
He later became the youngest judge ever elected to Michigan’s 36th District Court and went on to host the Emmy-winning courtroom series Judge Mathis for 24 seasons.
The couple addressed their reconciliation publicly during an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show late last year. Mathis described the separation as one of the most painful experiences of his life.
“I’d do anything to get my mother back,” he said. “So I did anything to get my wife back.”
Linda said the pair committed themselves to repairing the relationship, explaining that they “did a lot of work” and “learned each other again.”
In addition to reconnecting personally, the couple remained visible together publicly throughout 2025.
They have been married since 1985 and have four children together.
