Joseph Duggar, a former cast member of TLC’s 19 Kids & Counting, has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged child sexual abuse case tied to a 2020 incident in Florida.
According to People, the 31-year-old former reality star faces charges including lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor under 12, as well as inappropriate conduct by an adult.
Duggar was taken into custody in Washington County, Arkansas, and is awaiting extradition to Florida, where the charges were filed. Officials have not yet confirmed when he will appear in court.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office says the case centers on allegations involving a 9-year-old girl who was vacationing with her family in Panama City Beach at the time. Investigators say the matter came to light years later after the victim, now 14, participated in a forensic interview.
In the interview, a pattern of inappropriate behavior during the trip was outlined. “As the vacation continued, he also asked her to sit next to him on a couch and covered them with a blanket,” authorities said, adding that the inappropriate contact escalated over time.
The agency also noted that the victim reported Duggar later apologized and that the behavior stopped afterward. Investigators say Duggar allegedly acknowledged the conduct when confronted by the victim’s father and detectives.
Duggar became known to viewers through 19 Kids & Counting, a long-running reality series that followed the Duggar family’s daily life and values. The show, which premiered in 2008, became one of TLC’s most recognizable franchises before its eventual cancellation.
The arrest comes amid ongoing scrutiny of the Duggar family following earlier legal issues involving Joseph’s older brother, Josh Duggar. His case led to the cancellation of 19 Kids & Counting and resulted in a federal conviction tied to child sexual abuse material offenses, for which he is currently serving a sentence expected to extend into the next decade.
